Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

As the weather is starting to get much colder and snow has recently made an appearance, we are seeing some wonderful coats, hats and scarves.

Can I gently remind all parents to ensure all children are fully equipped for the winter weather as we continue to encourage children to take breaks and lunchtimes outside.  Congratulations to our boys football teams who played strongly, skillfully, and valiantly last weekend in the finals.  Well done also to our Year 3 and 4 students who engaged so well with their IPC trip to the Tashkent Polytechnical Museum and were behaved so impeccably.

Please read below for further details on both events.

Last Sunday, staff were invited to the British Embassy to collectively acknowledge and honour the memory of those that have sacrificed their lives to provide us with the democratic freedoms we enjoy today. Students from the British, International and French, along with our school, delivered some poignant readings for the ceremony.  Our Year 12 student, Lucas, read the Vera Brittain poem, ‘Perhaps’ so beautifully and represented our student body so very well.

I mentioned at the start of the year that we are a growing and ambitious school.  This ambition can only be realised with your support and input.  We are currently reviewing how we communicate with you, our parents and the wider community.

Please take 5 minutes to complete this short questionnaire, so that we can refine our communication procedures so that we can keep you fully informed with what is happening with your child’s progress and school events.

Please check out details below outlining WIST’s first every Mo Day on Monday 29th November!

The very best of luck to our cross-country runners who will be competing at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday – keep warm by running swiftly!

Best wishes,

Brian Platts

Principal

Year 3 and Year 4 trip to the Tashkent Polytechnic Museum

Year 3 and Year 4 children paid a visit to Tashkent Polytechnical Museum to explore the early stages of the technology, specifically, cars. They also had a chance to study about electricity and tried various experiments to retrieve energy e.g. cycling the bike corded to the lights. The children enjoyed their experience in the Planetarium in which they could observe the early stages of life on Earth. The museum provided the children with lots of engaging and educating games. Everyone had a great time out.

Our football teams under 15 and under 19 played in the grand finale.

After an exciting series of playoffs, both our Under 15 and Under19 Boys soccer teams made the grand finals. This past weekend, both teams battled cold conditions and their opposition to take a step on the podium.

Sunday morning saw U19s play against TIS. Even after a great performance and their best display of the season, the result did not go our way. WIST finished fourth overall.

On the same morning, our U15s had their playoff for the championship. Led by returning captain Umar, the team could not beat the strong defence of their opposing team.

Although the team had on all previous games, they fell at the final hurdle and experienced defeat for the first time. At the awards ceremony, players were awarded their well-deserved medals for coming second overall.

Many thanks to everyone who came to support, and a special mention to our coaches Mr. Murod and Mr. Shoatram for leading the teams throughout the season.

MO DAY AT WIST

To support the international initiative of MOVEMBER, WIST will be hosting its first MO DAY on Monday 29th November. Since 2003, The Men’s health organization Movember has raised millions of dollars to assist research, advance treatment and provide support for families worldwide.

On MO Day, our community is invited to ‘SHOW YOUR MO’ by wearing a moustache and donating your top lip for a day. Mo’s can be drawn, stuck, painted, modelled or any other creative method to show support in ‘Changing the face of men’s health’.
