Model United Nations (MUN) Club Presentation

6 November 2022

Since the starting of MUN Club, students of Yr 12 at WIST have been conducting introductory presentations to promote the club to Yr 7-13 students.

A MUN (Model United Nations) itself is a simulation of an actual UN (United Nations) conference, where students represent different countries and meet in one place to arrive at the best course of action to face global problems. They are tasked with solving a global issues through research, drafting, lobbying and debate to pass a suitable “resolution”. MUN conferences are an ideal way for students to challenge themselves and improve their professional skills, communication skills, and global acumen.

During the presentation, our speakers highlighted the MUN structure and objectives, kinds of people students can meet, valuable awards that can be won, and both personal and future career benefits of joining MUN. One of the speakers who has much experience with MUN shared about her personal experience during conferences, skills she has gained that were helpful in real life, and how being in MUN has changed her outlook on life in general.

Last but not least, Yr 12 students also showed the audience a short MUN simulation on the topic of “The Importance of Implementing Mandatory School Uniforms in Schools”, playing the role of delegates of countries and engaging in a debate. In this way, students were able to experience a MUN conference and have a better understanding of it. MUN conferences will be held during MUN club meetings. At the end of a MUN conference, the traits inculcated will definitely serve students well in their future endeavor, so do not miss such a chance and come and join our club!
