WILLIAM PIKE update!

Students in the secondary school at WIST have hit the ground running with their participation in the William Pike Challenge Award. This initiative aims to develop our students to become more well-rounded individuals. Students are undertaking community service, a ‘passion project’ where they try out a new sport or hobby and as well as outdoor activities organised by Ms Alice Bowers (William Pike Co-ordinator).

The first of these adventures will be taking place on Sunday 20th November 2022, where students will visit the Paltau waterfall at Chatkal nature reserve. This will involve an 8-kilometre hike to the impressive 35 metre waterfall. Students have been pursuing volunteering opportunities at our primary school, assisting with the delivery of a range of After School Activities (ASAs). Shakhriyor (8A) has enjoyed spending time playing with smaller children as part of Ms Bettina’s nursery club, whilst Mr Tom’s football club has benefited from the support of Saeed and Muslima.

Students participating in the William Pike program are also beginning to contribute towards the 20 hours required to complete their passion project. Ameliya (9A) has been trying out volleyball, Mirislom (8B) and Munisa (9A) have been trying their hands at tennis and Yurim (9C) has taken up ice skating. Students are making great progress to complete their award and have expressed their excitement for their upcoming hike!
